A Market Meal
May 10, 2010 at 9:07 pm | Posted in Dinner | 4 CommentsEarly Sunday morning on May 2nd Ned and I wandered downtown (well drove…) and quenched our thirst for the first real fresh food of the season! Got some strawberries, asparagus, pickles, flowers for R&R and sausage. The sausage was the best part. We’ve always looked longingly at the meat selection at the Truck Patch stand, so we went bold and actually opened the coolers and perused thoroughly! There were many kinds of sausage and a instant tasty meal came to mind. “What do you think about peppers and onions with sausage Ned??” “YES, wonderful idea…”
This meal reminds me of going to O’s games and stopping at the big dog stand with the silver hut (which doesn’t exist anymore sadly) and getting two to go to eat during the first inning. That big dog stand makes a mean pepper and onion. I think we are going on Friday (my first game of the season finally!) and I can’t wait to shove some mustard and pork in my face and finish it off with cotton candy later. So please help me root for the O’s this season (they need all the support they can get! and its in my flipping blood so I must root for the O’s for eternity) and go for the jump to see the asparagus below!!

Vivacious Volt
May 7, 2010 at 10:24 am | Posted in Appetizer, Dessert, Dinner, Travels | 2 CommentsVivacious, isn’t that just one of the most flaming words in our language?? Well yes it is, and to me it defines something that is beautiful and full of life. Well, Volt surely was that! Ned and I were in town last Saturday for our buddies Stephanie and Rich’s wedding on Friday night and so we stayed over in Frederick (minutes away from my new work!) and went and walked around town on Saturday morning. I had made reservations like 3 months ago, but they somehow got lost and wonderful Volt was still able to seat us for lunch!
Ned and I had the most lovely lunch we have had in a long time. The service was amazing and the food was even better, really reminded us of being back at Alinea with how sublime everything was. So take a minute and go see our tasty lunch – it was really a wonderful way to be welcomed to town. We CANNOT wait to go back there all the time once I officially live in Frederick!
Earth Day @ One World
May 3, 2010 at 2:23 pm | Posted in Dinner | 7 CommentsWell this is about two weeks late, but there are things that are requiring more of my attention lately, first and foremost is that I have a new job! Still doing environmental chemistry, but in Frederick, MD! And that leads to another exciting topic is that once our lease is up on June 30, I will be moving to Frederick and finding a place downtown there! I am so excited to be able to live near a downtown and Frederick has an adorable one at that…
So I had been reading a bit in my loads of free time prior to last week. One book I picked up from the library was Face on your plate. It was basically more information than In Defense of Food and Food Inc give you about the real life of meat that is fed to humans. Some parts made me very sad about the lives of animals and some made me very sad about what its doing to the environment… So on earth day, the gang gathered at One World for happy hour and I decided to go with something vegan. I hardly ever eat that way, but I am happy that I did. Another thing Ned and I are going to try to start doing is Meatless Monday. Last night we whipped up a huge batch of pad thai (with eggs as our protein) and we will be eating this tonight!
Colorful Caiola’s
April 23, 2010 at 9:47 am | Posted in Brunch | 2 CommentsSo this post rounds out my wonderful fun filled trip to Portland, ME. Sunday morning we were hungry, well pretty hungry and KT and I decided to venture to a well received brunch spot she had never visited before! Some ladies and a fellow blogger joined us and we had fun conversation and a good time.
The interior of the restaurant reminds me of a Spanish Hacienda or something! Beautiful decorations and the food was pretty colorful too, go check it out!

Beautiful Bresca
April 19, 2010 at 5:02 pm | Posted in Dinner | Leave a CommentKate and I wanted to go out to a nice dinner together on Saturday night of my trip out there. I think she picked the perfect place- Bresca . I neglected to get an outside photo…the snowy rain was coming down too hard! But here is a photo of their water and olive oil jugs- a round bottom flask! Wow I’m a chemistry nerd and I fully admit that.
This place was pretty small (18 seats) and decorated in a simple and lovely way. I could tell that the chef was a woman (and a pregnant one too apparently!). The food was excellent and if I had a restaurant all my own, I would like it to be similar to this place. Go check out the exquisite pieces of art! (I mean food!!)
“Salad” at Silly’s
April 14, 2010 at 2:35 pm | Posted in Dinner | 2 CommentsAfter the morning cheesemaking and vodka adventures in Freeport, we headed back to Portland and decided to go to a nice homey delicious lunch spot not that far away from Kate’s house! It was called Silly’s and it was fun! (boy do I sound sarcastic
..) That’s what happens when you are bored at home all day and try to make yourself smile!
Boy it was overcast that day! But such is the end of winter. It was a nice brisk weather weekend, but it really made me feel like I was in Maine! Now go inside, get warm and check out our delicious food.
Homemade Mozzarella + Potato Vodka!
April 8, 2010 at 6:02 pm | Posted in Appetizer, Entertainment, Tools | 8 CommentsWell hello blogosphere! Sorry I’ve been gone so long, things are changing in my life and while they haven’t settled down completely, I am at peace again and can start doing the things that used to bring me joy. Like how this morning I ran 4 miles! Once I crested that long hill up Charles St and could see the view of Timonium, it was pure joy. The cut the cake challenge is basically at a stalemate for us, but I’m hoping that incorporating running back into my exercise schedule will help me shed some more pounds before the June wedding! So anyways, back to my trip to Maine! Lucky for me, I chose a weekend to visit Portland when there was a fun farm lesson in Freeport, ME!
This picture is obviously not from the farm, but from a vodka distillery we popped into after our farm lesson. Check out the cheesemaking adventure below.
Thai in Portland, Maine
March 5, 2010 at 5:31 pm | Posted in Dinner, Entertainment, Travels | 6 CommentsThis restaurant review starts my Portland Maine food weekend!! We went there shortly after I arrived on Friday early evening. Kate is reviewing (along with alot of other Portland food bloggers) all of the Thai restaurants in Portland Maine. This restaurant was her second stop in that reviewing voyage. In the picture you can see some of our friends, C and E. They are good sports when it comes to photographing their food and being inundated with flashes while eating dinner.
After dinner we headed over to the ice rink to see the local hockey team play the Albany team. It turns out that Portland is losing their Buffalo sabres farm team- I feel dissapointed now…and that was my only time seeing them! Go Sabres- with or without their awesome Portland team! And while we didn’t know that info while we ate, we had a pretty happy meal and lots of different dishes came to the table of 7. Check em out below.
