Ana y Carmen’s Tortilla Española
January 11, 2012 at 9:00 am | Posted in Lunch, Travels | 9 CommentsToday I decided to change up the Wordless Wednesday theme and publish a guest post from Ana Ibañez Garcia!!! Sweet Ana, Maggie’s hermana in España was featured on the blog earlier in December and agreed to help me with a special potato project by sending me this beautiful compilation of photos and recipe of her mother’s tortilla española.
Here is lovely Carmen. She treated Maggie like a queen in that household and fed her amazingly. We were so lucky to be able to have a specially prepared lunch on our visit. So without further ado, please go for the jump to see pictures and the recipe!
La Boqueria
December 23, 2011 at 7:00 am | Posted in Appetizer, Entertainment, Lunch, Travels | Leave a commentThe next morning, our last full day in Barcelona, we set off to wander and peruse the big amazing market, La Boqueria!!! I had anticipated this visit for many years – I had heard great things. And it did not disappoint.
It was huge and and busy and full of lots and lots of things to eat. We had fun perusing, then went shopping at El Corte Ingles for a bit and then came back to find random things to eat for lunch! Go for the jump to see lots of pretty foodstuffs.
Gaudi y Almuerza
December 22, 2011 at 7:00 am | Posted in Entertainment, Lunch, Travels | 2 CommentsHappy Thirsty Thursday my friends! woooot, I wish I was having a drink right now, but instead I have eaten lots and lots of christmas cookies. Just wait for my Elizabeth’s Cookie Christmas 2011 on Saturday! So when I last left off, we had arrived in Barcelona and had an awesome authentic dinner. The next morning we had a nice breakfast in the hotel and then set off to look at all things Gaudi all around town! First stop was the Casa Mila…
Next stop was SAGRADA FAMILIA!!!! I know you guys have seen all of these cool pictures before, but I was just in such amazement I could not contain myself. I literally walked around this structure and kept saying “This is so awesome… This is so awesome…”
Just as Becca and I discussed tonight, it is so cool to be able to witness such a magnificent structure and be able to see it while it is still in construction. I can’t wait to go back in 30 some odd years to see it completed. Now go check out some more pictures from around town and a nice quick lunch we had in a random square!
Our Last Meal in Alicante
December 20, 2011 at 1:04 pm | Posted in Lunch, Travels | Leave a commentIt is very fitting that I am posting this today, because today is Maggie’s last day in Alicante herself. As I write she is running up the mountain to the top of the castle for the last time. I am so happy Maggie got to take this voyage and I am so excited to see my cousin growing up and getting cultured. I am so proud of all of the Spanish she has learned and really hope someday she will be able to use that in her career. So here is my new profile picture. Sooooo beautiful.
Our last day we took it easy, slept late, ate a nice breakfast in the beautiful lobby and then did some quick shopping… but for our last meal we went back to La Taberna!! Go check it out below!
MARQ y Monastrell Barra
December 19, 2011 at 12:04 pm | Posted in Appetizer, Lunch | Leave a commentWell hellooooooo. My oh my that weekend that just passed was probably one of the most fun filled and packed in one of my life! I love my friends and my family too. But my friends really rock. And this upcoming Christmas weekend is going to be so packed with family time I am certainly going to squeal. Can’t wait to see everyone!!! But may we go back to Alicante?? Oh yes we may, because look at this view!!! It was from outside our hotel room and it knocked my socks off.
So we had a leisurely morning and then set off to the one cool museum in town: the MARQ.
Very innovative and technically advanced and it was really neat to see the history of the region starting from long long ago.
After the museum we headed to the bar (Monastrell Barra)! Ha! Actually it was for lunch, but we may have drank some white wine… Go check these pics out!
La Universidad de Alicante
December 16, 2011 at 8:00 am | Posted in Lunch | Leave a commentHappy Friday Friends! I think I’ll do some double posting today! So the next morning after our first fun night in town, we went to school!!! Well actually Maggie went to class and then we met her for lunch! There is a little cafe on campus and it has simple delicious dishes.
It was fun going up to the busy counter and getting our bocadillos and fantas. Marfi and I have nice memories of going to Mexico and drinking lots of fanta when we were younger. Go for the jump to see my bocadillo.
Lovin some Lunchbox
December 14, 2011 at 7:00 am | Posted in Dinner, Lunch | 3 CommentsSCREEECH. I hereby interrupt my 12 days of Spain with a new excitement in my life that I deemed important to be timely about. Sooooo, you would not believe that the new restaurant in town is the CLOSEST restaurant to my house! Volt Lunchbox opened two weeks ago and the town is a buzzing. Especially our household. Jenn and I have made three visits there in the past 7 days (one together, and two separately) and we can definitely say that this place makes a mean delicious and affordable sandwich.
It also helps that the people working there are awesome, namely Evan and Keith. I had a fun time chatting with them that dark and rainy evening a week ago. On Saturday when I visited with Bethany, Evan made a point to ask me how my meal was, I appreciated it greatly.

Breezy Afternoon at Bahia Taco
September 14, 2011 at 7:27 pm | Posted in Lunch, Travels | 2 CommentsIf you saw my wordless Wednesday post from this week, you might have noticed I went to California!! Beautiful sunny La Jolla actually. I turned 29 years young and made a trip to visit my best girl Becca to commemorate the occasion! After a nice stroll along the water we went in search of that elusive best fish taco. I think we found it too! It was just lovely driving along the coast headed south towards Bird Rock.
Becca is so lucky to live in this oasis! Especially an oasis that has so much good Mexican food! We sampled lots of it all weekend and I was soooo happy. Go for the jump to see our meal and some pretty pictures…
Sammiches for the Runner
August 29, 2011 at 9:55 am | Posted in Lunch | Leave a commentSo the morning after the race, I was pretty darn hungry. I proceeded to eat a slice of that pie and then somehow whizzed around my house cleaning for an hour! I had heard good things about this deli, CrabApples, in downtown Frederick and so I met up with my new favorite Frederick dweller and had a sweet lunch outside.
That night I met up with Bethany’s family for dinner at the Orchard again! Her sister, Emily, used to come to Frederick for court cases for work a couple times a month and so she used to frequent Crabapples alot. That is until the owner got very “crabby” about them hanging out at their table for too long… So we didn’t get any attitude that day, and I my inquiry to take pictures was well received behind the counter, so all was well that Saturday. Go for the jump to see more pictures!
