September 19, 2011 at 7:00 am | Posted in Brunch, Dessert, Entertainment | 4 CommentsDid I ever tell you how much I love Sprinkles?? Not just the cupcakes… but sprinkles in general! Miniature dots of brightly colored sugar just bring smiles to my face. And I very much enjoy pinning sprinkly kind of things.. like this and this and this. I am so happy lots of my buddies have been pinning their little butts off! So inspirational, pretty and funny. Ok so back to the actual sprinkles! Everyone knows about this cupcake chain…
This company picked a beautiful logo. Marketing is so important for this type of business. Every little detail counts! Go for the jump to see the store and our picks for the weekend!

Sunday Lunch at Red Canoe
August 22, 2011 at 12:02 pm | Posted in Dessert | 4 CommentsLast Sunday morning after many a rain storm and an insane 5 mile run through the rainstorm, I discovered that my previously scheduled lunch date was not going to work out, so I instantly messaged Jen my cousin to see if she was free for lunch instead! She was! And so we took a nice sunny drive down to Harford Road and had a nice leisurely lunch full of summer vacation talk and other fun discussions. It’s nice being able to just sit with Jen and talk since most of our conversations happen on G-chat or text!
Red Canoe was the perfect place to catch up and relax. We had some sandwiches and split a muffin! Go check em out…
Patsy’s Blackberry Cobbler
August 15, 2011 at 11:05 am | Posted in Dessert, Travels | 2 CommentsBaked Fruit Desserts… Quintessential summer staple, right?? That’s what I was thinking! It is no hidden secret that I like to bake for other people… And so the opportunity arose to bake for some new friends in DC on Friday night and I jumped right into my Pioneer Woman cookbook and out came Patsy! Patsy is married to Ree’s father and has the sweetest simplest little cobbler recipe that ever could be. Thanks for the recipe Ree and Patsy! I will be revisiting you again!
I mean, come on, 5 ingredients and about 5 minutes of prep? And what results is berry, slightly crispy, gooey deliciousness. Go check out some step pictures…
A simple summer meal with friends
August 5, 2011 at 7:00 am | Posted in Dessert, Dinner, Entertainment | 9 CommentsYou know what makes me happy?? Meeting friends through the internet (insert winky face here, haha)… Some of these friends include Julie and Meg! Julie and I get to see each other once a month for Cookbook Club, and Julie and Meg have a lovely tradition of going to the JFX Farmer’s Market every Sunday followed by brunch, but Meg and I don’t see each other hardly enough! Meg just moved uptown in Baltimore close to where I used to live when I was at Hopkins and has been busy decorating up her new house! It is lovely, I love her style, I can’t wait to watch the transformation unfold on her blog!
So it was definitely time for a mini reunion. We all came together and each made a delicious dish for a wonderful little evening in the living room! Here was Julie’s salad. Amazingly delicious. Sugar snap peas, sliced radishes, goat cheese and some spices (sumac??). She found it at epicurious, I will definitely be making it again!

Black and White and Red all over
July 22, 2011 at 7:00 am | Posted in Dessert | 4 CommentsHow’s that for a old school funny joke. Reminds me of reading the kids section of the Baltimore Sun for the comics and such. I always loved that Egg section that had funny pictures and jokes inserting the word “Egg” into different words. So what is your favorite version/answer of/to that joke?? I think mine is a sunburned skunk.
So how on earth does that relate to this post?? WEllll…. I made black and white cookies! For James my buddy (buddies because of work, so really he’s my coworker, but he’s more than a coworker, sometimes he is someone I get to annoy, sometimes he is a shoulder to cry on, and most of the time he is someone that makes me laugh).
I love James!!! <3 him so much that I just had to make him a treat for his birthday. And he is a cookie monster just like me, so I went searching for a good cookie that I had never made. I settled upon the Black and White cookies from Joy the Baker. James has good memories from his childhood of these cookies, so I thought they were a perfect choice. For a couple of days I considered making the red velvet version of these cookies, which he responded unethusiastically… But it turns out his lovely wife Kristen guffawed at his apathy, so next time I will make red velvet Kristen!!!

Tempted at Tate’s Bake Shop
July 18, 2011 at 10:55 am | Posted in Brunch, Dessert, Travels | 2 CommentsLast Monday morning, the girls (including little Lils) and I set out for breakfast in the Hamptons. We wanted some sweet stuffs and then go browsing at some of the local shops. Jana and Nicole have become smitten with Tate’s bake shop recently and so that was our breakfast choice!
It was a very nice bakeshop and the sweet confection I had for breakfast in addition to the crispy whole wheat chocolate cookies I picked up for later were really good. Go see some more pictures after the jump!
Our Palates were Jumping for Joy at Jaleo
July 4, 2011 at 7:00 am | Posted in Cookbooks, Dessert, Dinner, Travels | 5 CommentsHow’s that for alliteration?? Speaking of jumping, I am surmising that last night (aka Marfi’s wedding) the entire Hall clan was jumping (aka dancing) for two straight hours! And boy are we sore!! More pictures to come from that soon!
And while I am talking about celebrations, Happy Fourth of July everyone!!! I thank God that I was born in this great country.
So let’s jump back about a week ago to Laurita and my day trip to DC! We had fun at the BBQ Festival and then wandered over to the Capitol and took some cool shots (yay for Wordless Wednesday!), then relaxed at the arboretum followed by an ice cream truck stop and visit to the National Museum of the American Indian! Then I realized that Jaleo, a restaurant that I first visited when I took Spanish in high school (Gracias Señora Lange!) was right around the corner! And a way to salute my sister and her Spanish learning this summer and soon to be Spanish teaching adventure this fall, we went there for dinner!
And it was extra cool going here for dinner after Cookbook club had done his cookbook back in January!
Delicious Cuisine at Corner BYOB
July 1, 2011 at 7:00 am | Posted in Dessert, Dinner | 7 CommentsLast Friday night Alayne and I cooked up an idea for a nice dinner out together. She chose Hampden as the location and knew about this newly opened restaurant, Corner BYOB. When I took one look at the menu outside I knew it would be a good meal! And as the name says, it was BYOB so Alayne had a bottle of white in her fridge that we took!
Since we didn’t have a reservation (Look! I didn’t plan something! This is normally very tough for me to do…) there was a two top right at the bar and right by the big window. It was perfect!!! The waitress was sweet, there were a ton of specials that she explained charmingly. The entree Alayne and I got was amazing, and dessert was good too. But there was one hang up… Go for the jump to see more details!
Summertime Girlie Dinner Party!!!
June 21, 2011 at 12:36 pm | Posted in Appetizer, Cookbooks, Dessert, Dinner, Entertainment | 7 CommentsThe plan for this weekend started back in May. It had been long enough since I had cooked a meal with Beffy, Kelly, and Laurita and I wanted to bring Allison and Lynsi into the mix! The whole gang had so much fun and it was the first time I really felt like we got to use our backyard beautifully!
I made a strawberry flatbread, inspiration and recipe courtesy of Miss Joy the Baker, and it was the perfect start to our meal! Go for the jump and see lots more fun pictures!
