Burgers and BBQ with Bernadette

A couple of weeks ago I headed down to Baltimore to celebrate my good friend Bernadette’s 26th birthday! This is the third year I have been able to celebrate her birthday and I am so thankful to have such a cheery and fun friend in my life. She had mentioned that she had never been to Nacho Mama’s and so we decided we would try to go there for dinner that night. Lo and behold that was the night of the Natty Boh keg tapping! There was no way in heck we were going to get into that establishment so we turned around and headed to the next best place to get good eats in Canton. JD’s.

I’ve been here a couple of times, one night while we were bar hopping and another when we were watching the Ravens final game two seasons ago. I really like it because there is so much room there to spread out! Not really common for a Canton bar. And the food is pretty good too, check it out!

See that sign? Natty BOH Draught coming soon! This is the hot beer news of the century for Baltimore! And I had one at the Yacht Club last Monday before Scotty’s Stoop Story. Very exciting.

Ok so back to dinner. So this restaurant/bar does claim to be a Smokehouse right? So I decided to get a pulled pork sandwich! (aka the Pork and Slaw Sandwich).

I don’t remember the meat being particularly smoky, but the barbeque sauce it was slathered on tasted good, a little sweet.

The main problem with the sandwich is that the meat was so juicy that it totally soaked through the bottom bun! I was forced to eat it with a fork, and that was fine with me cause I didn’t want to eat so much bread anyhow…

The sweet potato fries I got were good too, crispy enough for my liking and there were a TON of them in the basket. And also in the basket??? Some hush puppies, what a surprise! (I had thought about ordering hush puppies as an appetizer, but am so glad we got a few bites with our fries).

Bernadette got a burger, the Jack burger to be exact. A ’1/2 pound of certified angus beef, basted with Jack Daniels whiskey & topped with horseradish cheddar cheese, bacon, lettuce & tomato.’ She loved it. The horseradish cheddar cheese was the best part of the burger. And once again, tons of fries. Let’s be honest here, too many fries! Even though Bern and I sat at our table for like 2 hours, there were too many fries for us even to nibble on while we gabbed!

Lastly, was some Blue Moon in a Natty Boh glass. Love the Natty Boh, really because its just Baltimore and I love Baltimore.

The Blue Moon was good too, I mean come on, any beer with an orange slice in it is good to me.Β  All in all, I really enjoyed my meal at JD’s, mostly because I love catching up with Bernadette, but also cause we had some good food to go with it!

  1. I’ve lived near Canton for 5 1/2 years, and I’ve never been into JD’s! I don’t think I even realized they have food!

    • Well there ya go! :-D

  2. Jack’s Bistro, which is slightly off the square, is pretty tasty, too! I really want a pulled pork sandwich now.

  3. That sounds like a fun place to go!

I agree with the pork sammy, it did look a little juicy!! I hate when the bread gets soggy too.

    Happy Birthday to your friend

p.s. I added you to my blog roll today!

Leave me something sweet!
