MD Home and Garden Show
March 8, 2009 at 1:56 pm | Posted in Entertainment, Travels | 2 CommentsSo lucky little me got a great invite last week from the peeps at Himmelrich to go check out the great foodie things at the Show. Well lets just say that Ned and I were pleasantly surprised at how splendid our afternoon was yesterday!

Got to taste some yummy bits, drank some wine and got to chat it up with Warren Brown! Who I must say is awesome and hilarious.
We missed his on stage session at 1, but was much more pleased that he had some free time in the booth to hang out and have some laughs. Similar to my work life right now, the economy is definitely affecting all aspects of his business and boy do I hope that switches up real soon. He is currently working on a new book where a classical/quintessential cake with recipe from each of the 50 states is featured! He’s been back in the kitchen and most surely googling to come up with the perfect recipe and he is loving every minute of it. Sure hope you can find something delicious from Colorado and South Dakota Warren! And we got to laugh it up about the Snuggie, aka the easiest way to establish instant comradery with a total stranger in 30 seconds!

After catching up with Warren my desire to grab some Cakelove much more frequently has been renewed. He is definitely running a fantastically delicious and highly respectable business in this day and age. And after eating some of the Baltimore Cupcake Co. concoctions last week at a birthday shindig I would have to say that Cakelove has my vote for #1 cupcake in Bawlmer. That buttercream is heavenly!

In addition to a quick bite of the Cakelove brownie, Ned and I checked out this cheesecake purveyor, Dee Dee’s Desserts. Apparently you can mix their delicious flavoring packets with cream cheese and cool whip and have an instant cheesecake. Personally (cough-food snob-cough) I like taking the time to make cheesecakes from scratch but if you were in a pinch, this concoction is surely tasty, especially the creamsicle!

The guy working was a nice lad and it turns out that this business in based in Buffalo, NY! Ned’s hometown! It was very nice to see some good stuff coming from his hood.

Another booth along the way was Bronco Billy’s Beef Jerky! This company is Pennsylvania based and definitely one ups Slim Jim’s. We tried the teriyaki and spicy ones. Definitely more flavorful and more responsibly preserved than the alternative. And they are all beef based and expertly smoked.

Lastly, we stopped at our favorite winery’s booth! Boordy never dissapoints! We tried some of my favorite, the seyval-vidal-chardonnay, the vidal blanc and their newest addition: the fun loving tango peach! Tastes just like peach juice right off the tree. These guys are great and I cannot wait for beautiful Saturday afternoon for a picnic on the lawn with fantastic wine at the vineyard.
