Talay Thai Grille
July 7, 2008 at 2:13 pm | Posted in Dinner, Travels | 5 CommentsI went to this lovely joint in Fells on Saturday with my buddies and I was pleasantly suprised that everything we tried was quite delicious! and then I was also pleasantly surprised to realize that I think these are the same owners as Thai Restaurant in Waverly (my go to when I am craving some thai food)! We went family style! Check out our selections below:

This was an appetizer: Hae Kurn- crab & shrimp stuffed in a bean curd skin, deep fried with sweet and sour sauce!
The hae kurn tasted like a yummy little sausage slice and the sweet and sour sauce was perfect with it. Next was another appetizer: the dumplings! I should have snapped a pic of the filling, but they were nice and savory (chicken I believe??). Very filling…I would equate these to a tasty indonesian meatball.

Next was the first of our three entrees: Sam Sahai- shrimp, squid (yay squid) and chicken with peppers and onions in a garlic sauce. The squid was not too chewy (as I was expecting) and tasted nice with the peppers and onions.

And next to my old standby: chicken pad thai! we can never go wrong! NEVER! The perfect balance of noodle to peanut to bean sprouts to chicken!

Lastly drunken noodles with duck, I always knew drunken noodles were good, but WOW I cannot get enough! and this was the first time they ever had an order of drunken noodles with duck as the protein! The carrots and broccoli and duck were cooked perfectly and boy I wish I could recreate that sauce.

Looks yummy!
Here’s a recipe for Pad Kee Mao. I’ve made it before – without all the chiles – and it’s delicious. And pretty easy to get all of the ingredients together too.

So yeah, fantastic restaurant. My good friend is the “owner” and son of the owners of the other restaurant you referred to. If your friends ever mention thai arroy – let them know it’s not Thai owned and that they should absolutely go to Talay!
